A pan-institutional transdisciplinary
lab committed to shaping the future.

We convene people across disciplines to explore and prototype possible futures through Collective research, Public engagement, and hands-on workshops that turn imagination into practice.

The Sustainable Futures Lab brings together research, practice, and education across three interconnected domains that support long-term, regenerative futures.

  • From imagination to action
We believe futures thinking is a practical skill—not a speculative luxury.

  • From siloed expertise to collective intelligence
Complex social challenges require collaboration across disciplines, sectors, and lived experience.

  • From passive concern to shared agency
We design experiences that help people move from awareness to possibility, and from possibility to action.

What We Do:

  • We focus on cultivating the capacity to imagine long-term futures through design, pedagogy, and collective sense-making. This work explores how people learn to think beyond the present and engage meaningfully with uncertainty and change. How does the ability to imagine alternative, positive, futures affect our sense of agency and optimism?

  • We engage in applied, place-based work that addresses real-world sustainability challenges and the transition toward regenerative social, environmental, and urban systems. What will it take to move from merely sustainable to thriving? How can we increase the resilience of systems around us?

  • We explore how governance structures, leadership practices, and decision-making systems can support equitable, adaptive, and future-oriented change. How can we reimagine or transform the systems around us?
